Radio 1's Red Nose Day Challenege

Radio 1’s Red Nose Day Challenge

Nick Grimshaw will be helping to raise as much money as possible in his 3 and half hour radio show on the 7th of March for Red Nose Day.  Help share this guys, lets get the word around.

The new way to protest

People dancing to Scream & Shout by outside the town hall in Manchester.  This was done in protest against council cuts resulting in the shutting down of the Levenshulme library.

This was filmed on a mobile so apologies for the poor sound & shaky video.

Everything is a remix – Remix Culture

Just watched the four part series of ‘Everything is a remix’ by Kirby Ferguson, would highly recommend, it’s a real eye opener.  Check it out here

It explains the ‘remix’ culture we live in today, copy -> transform -> combine, the three steps to creation.  Listen to Led Zeppelin, watch George Lucas’ Star Wars, or the contemporary remix king Tarantino’s Kill Bill and you can see ‘creation from influence’ being taken to the literal extremes, but still, you cannot deny the grandeur of these works.  I do thoroughly recommend you watch the video though, if there was any doubt before, after watching – it will make you say remix culture is a big positive!

Heavily influenced by Kirby Ferguson & the content of his videos 😉

Public Dj sets on radio?

Public DJ sets on Radio?  A week by week (day by day?) radio programme that calls for DJ’s of all backgrounds, whether that be a semi-professional just starting off or that guy making mixes in his bedroom, to play a half-hour set each.  It would be a great way to reach out to the music community, you guys, and listen to what you want and get it for everyone else to hear.  These user mixes could be aired from the service sites such as SoundCloud.

Let us know your thoughts?  Has it been done before/being done?  Who would be good station to do this, the BBC?

Memorable films/tunes

This a short list of a few of my favourite films & tunes in no particular order.

Donnie Darko – The hall way scene with the Tears For Fears song ‘head over heels’ is one my all time favourite scene’s.  Unfortunately the full scene isn’t on Youtube anymore and this is the best i could find.

Goodfellas – I’m a huge Martin Scorcese fan and this film got me into Gangsta/Mob films (yes, before The Godfather!), particularly his releases; The Departed, Casino etc

Looper – Released last year this film blew me away, with a combination of time travel and futuristic mob worlds this proved to be a winning formula for me.

Incubus – Drive

Velvetine – The Great Divide (Seven Lions Remix)
